Swimming pools require maintenance at least once per week while they are open, that is, every week during the swimming season. Without proper maintenance, your pool’s filtering system might not work properly, or its pH or cynauric acid to chlorine ratio may be out of balance. Chemical imbalances in pool water can lead to the growth of pathogenic bacteria or unsightly green algae. Elkhart Pools can take care of all your routine pool maintenance needs. We can send a technician to check your pool’s chemical levels, filters, and pumps. If you prefer to perform your own weekly pool maintenance, Elkhart Pools has all the supplies you will need.
Every week, you should empty your pool’s skimmer and pump basket; it is even better to do this more than once per week if you have a lot of trees or hedges in your yard and a lot of leaves fall into your pool. Then you can start your pool cleaning. Skim the leaves and other debris off the surface of the pool with a pool net. It is also a good idea to vacuum the pool; Elkhart Pools has pool vacuums that creep along the bottom of the pool. Brush the sides of the pool near the waterline, so that the dirt falls to the bottom, where the vacuum can pick it up.
Next, test the chemicals and the pH of the water. Pool water should have a pH level of between 7.2 and 7.6. The chlorine level should be between one and three parts per million. The cynauric acid level should be 40 parts per million or lower. If the cynauric acid level is too high or if the pH level is out of range, the chlorine in the pool water will not be able to kill microbes effectively. You should test the pool water at least four hours after anyone has been swimming in the pool and at least eight hours after a rainfall, as these factors can temporarily affect pool chemistry and lead to false readings. It is also a good idea to shock your pool every week, that is, to add a high dose of chlorine. At Elkhart Pools, you can get all the test strips, chlorine tablets, and pool chemicals you need to keep your pool water safe.
When we send our technicians to do pool maintenance, they will inspect many parts of your pool to see if they need repair. These include drains, filters, and the pump and its motor and O-rings. They will also check the pool deck and any ladders, slides, or diving boards to make sure that they are safe.
