tile replacement

Picture
There are so many styles of pools from which pool owners can choose, from concrete to vinyl linings, but pools lined with tiles remain a timeless, elegant choice. Well maintained tile pools look attractive and can add value to your home. Some pools are entirely lined with tiles, even on the bottom, and but most of them have tiles just around the edge, near the surface of the water. Most pool tiles are six inch squares, but some are twelve inches, and decorative pool tiles can be smaller and in other shapes, such as triangles and hexagons. Besides their appearance, pool tiles are also popular because of their durability; they are virtually invulnerable to damage from ice, which is good news for pool owners in Michiana. Pool tiles are resistant to dirt; if you lined your pool with the same kind of tiles that are on your bathroom floor, there would be a perpetual “tub ring” around the edge of your pool. Sometimes visible dirt does build up near the surface of the pool, but you can usually remove it by using a scrub brush and a household cleaner such as Comet.

While the tiles themselves are very resistant to damage, the caulking used to hold them degrades over time from being in contact with water and pool chemicals. When there are cracks in the caulking, water can leak behind the tiles and freeze, which can cause the tiles to come loose. Ice forming behind the tiles can also cause the tiles themselves to crack. If just a few tiles have fallen off, it is possible to repair the damage yourself and put the tiles back by using thinset mortar cement or waterproof tile grout. The formation of ice behind the tiles can do more than just cause the tiles to fall off; it can damage the pool wall, and replacing the tiles may require you to have some or all of the pool wall rebuilt.

Another problem that can happen to pool tiles is that white deposits can build up on them. These deposits are sometimes caused by the residue from pool chemicals and sometimes by sediment from the grout used to affix the tiles. Sometimes it is possible to scrape off these deposits, which usually does not damage tiles if you use a flathead screwdriver or a putty knife to do it. Other ways of removing white deposits from tiles include acid washes and sand blasting, which must be done by professionals.

Elkhart Pools can repair the tiles in your pool and replace tiles and rebuild the pool wall if necessary. The tiles and grout we use are very resistant to ice damage; they need to be in order for us to help pools withstand the Indiana winters. Before we get to work making our repairs, we will always agree with you about which repairs you want us to make, and we will never pressure you into making more extensive repairs. We guarantee that our repairs will last a long time.
