Concrete Pool RepairConcrete swimming pools are a popular choice because they are economical. You can paint them to look however you want, but they are less expensive than vinyl pool linings or any of the newer fancier pool finishes that are available today. While concrete pools last a long time, it is possible for cracks to form in the concrete. The biggest cause of cracks in concrete swimming pools is extreme temperatures, and we have plenty of those here in Elkhart. Fortunately, Elkhart Pools can repair any cracks in your concrete swimming pool. We also sell the supplies that you need to fix the cracks yourself if you are into do-it-yourself pool repairs.
Many of the cracks in a concrete pool form below the water level, so it is not possible to see them unless you have excellent vision and a great pair of goggles. Usually, the first noticeable sign of cracks in your concrete pool is that the pool is leaking water. If your pool is leaking, you will notice that the water level gets lower from one day to the next or one week to the next. If a concrete pool gets really old, the concrete may also chip or hollow spots may develop in the concrete. |

Making repairs to a concrete pool requires that you drain the pool at least to below the level of the hole or crack. If parts of the concrete are loose, remove those, whether they are as big as stones or as small as particles of dust. This way, the concrete finish will look smooth when you are finished repairing it. Use a concrete injection tool to apply a layer of epoxy adhesive and allow it to set. (If you have never heard of a concrete injection tool or epoxy adhesive, it is probably a good idea to let us make the repair.) Then use a concrete mixer and the injection tool to apply polyurethane filler to the crack. The last step of the repair, sanding the debris and the injection tool ports off of the surface after the concrete has dried, requires that you wear a dusk mask and safety glasses.
For very small leaks, you can use pool putty, which does not require special equipment. Just mix the two tubes of pool putty, namely the resin and the epoxy, and apply them to the crack in the concrete with a trowel. Of course, you must first drain the pool to below the level of the crack and not refill it until after the pool putty has dried. While pool putty is a repair that is easy to do yourself, it is not a permanent solution. You will eventually need to have your concrete pool professionally repaired or restored. Pool putty has other uses as well. You can also use it to seal holes in skimmers, pool pumps, and pool lights, as well as to reattach broken tiles in tile pools. Elkhart Pools can help you repair your concrete pool and supply the necessary materials for the repair.
