How to clean a green pool

Is your pool green, brown or a murky color? Cleaning your pool can be simple if you have the right tools. Follow these simple steps to get your pool up to par:

  1. Remove debris such as leaves, grass and dirt as best as possible. If you have a vacuum, try to get as much off the bottom as possible. If debris on the bottom are really bad, draining part of the pool may be necessary. Drain, clean, refill and continue until most debris have been removed.

  2. In order for your pool to clear, your PH balances must be within proper ranges. Adjust your PH in your pool by adding PH up or PH down depending on the range.

  3. Add chlorine. Chlorine kills bacteria and algae. Put 3 to 4 gallons of chlorine in a day until the pool starts to clear.

  4. Once the pool starts to clear, shock your pool with pool shock. (Follow directions on the package).

  5. Use an algaecide.

  6. Clean bottom of pool.

  7. Check PH and readjust.

  8. Continue this process every couple of weeks to prevent a green pool.

If your pool is green, follow these directions to clean and sanitize your pool, or you could call the professionals at Elkhart Pools.
